Amenities on Green Island
Green Island has the core amenities most visitors need, including toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, food outlets, accessible paths ... and a bar!
Green Island amenities at a glance
- Public facilities: toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, showers, accessible paths, and day-visitor swimming pool
- Paid beach facilities: sun lounges, umbrellas, kayaks and other beach equipment
- Resort-guest facilities: a separate swimming pool, guest lounge, Wi-Fi and complimentary beach equipment
Are there toilets on Green Island?
Yes. Flush toilets are provided in the Green Island day-use area, including wheelchair-accessible toilets.
Are there showers on Green Island?
Yes. Showers are available within the resort area for day visitors.
Is there drinking water on Green Island?
Yes. Treated drinking water is available from taps in the day-use amenities block. Bottled water can also be purchased from the resort-area food outlets.
Can day visitors use the swimming pool?
There is a reasonablyl large swimming pool for day visitors. It's by the bar and cafe so hard to miss. There's also a seperate pool for overnight guests in the accomodation area.
Is there a guest lounge?
Yes, but the Coral Cay Guest Lounge is for overnight Green Island Resort guests rather than general day visitors.
During our stay, the lounge had comfortable seating, a television, books, board games, complimentary tea and coffee, a fridge and a microwave. It also provided free Wi-Fi.
The microwave was particularly useful because our Island Suite Twin Room had a bar fridge and kettle but no microwave or self-catering kitchen.
Can you hire beach equipment?
Yes. Beach Hire offers equipment such as sun lounges, umbrellas, kayaks and beach volleyball equipment. Snorkelling gear, flotation equipment, towels and other items may also be available through the island’s activity providers.
Day visitors generally pay separately for beach furniture and kayaking unless these are included in their particular package. Green Island Resort guests currently receive most non-motorised beach equipment, including kayaks, sun lounges and umbrellas, as part of their stay.
Important kayaking limitation
Kayaking depends on the weather and conditions on the day. It should not be treated as a guaranteed activity simply because it is advertised or included with a resort stay.
Kayaking was unavailable on one windy day during our July 2026 stay. Conditions improved the following day and we were then able to take the kayaks out. Day-visitor kayak hire is also normally offered in timed sessions rather than as an all-day hire.
Are activities included with the ferry?
Activity inclusions depend on the fare you choose. Great Adventures offers two straightforward packages:
- Green Island Eco Adventure: return ferry transfers plus your choice of snorkelling equipment or a glass-bottom boat tour. Check the current Eco Adventure price and availability.
- Green Island Discovery: return ferry transfers with both snorkelling equipment and a glass-bottom boat tour included. Check the current Discovery Tour price and availability.

| Sun lounges and umbrellas are available through Beach Hire; whether they are included depends on your package. |
Are there lockers on Green Island?
Lockers are available through the beach and activity facilities. Availability and charges can change, so check at Beach Hire or the island information counter when you arrive.
Are there shops on Green Island?
There are limited retail outlets rather than a full shopping area. Green Island does not have a supermarket or a large collection of shops, but visitors can buy food, drinks, souvenirs and selected beach or activity items within the resort area.
Is there food on Green Island?
Yes. There are cafés, takeaway food and restaurant options within the resort area. The number of choices is limited compared with Cairns, and opening hours can vary.
For more information, read our guide to food on Green Island.
Is there internet or Wi-Fi on Green Island?
Green Island Resort guests have access to complimentary Wi-Fi, including in the Coral Cay Guest Lounge. General day visitors should not assume that free public Wi-Fi is available across the island.
Is Green Island accessible for wheelchairs and strollers?
Green Island has wheelchair-accessible toilets, and the jetty, boardwalk and main resort-area paths are accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Some assistance may still be needed in places, particularly around the beach and sand.
Do people live on Green Island?
Green Island is primarily a national park, visitor attraction and resort island rather than a normal residential community. Resort and tourism staff may live on the island while working there, but visitors experience it as a small tourism destination rather than a town or village.
Choosing a tour based on the facilities
Before booking, check whether your fare includes the swimming pool, snorkelling equipment or a glass-bottom boat tour. Transfer-only fares generally include fewer extras than packaged tours.

The bottom line
Green Island has enough amenities for a comfortable day trip, including toilets, drinking water, showers, food access and picnic areas. However, pool access, beach furniture, kayaks and activity equipment depend on your operator, package or resort-guest status.
We visited Green Island in July 2026. Facility and access information was last checked in August 2026. Inclusions, charges and equipment availability can change, so confirm anything important with your operator before travelling.
